Multi-tenant SaaS development

One platform, thousands of customers at once

Multi-tenant Isolated data Scaling SLA Custom-built

We build multi-tenant SaaS platforms where thousands of companies use your product at the same time without ever seeing each other. Data isolated per customer, stable performance, zero-downtime deployments and new customers onboarded in seconds.

The problem

Poorly built multi-tenancy: the most expensive technical debt there is

These are the symptoms we see when a SaaS starts to grow without a multi-tenant architecture designed in from the start.

01

A shared database that can no longer cope

You started with 10 customers in a single database. Now, with 200, queries slow down, reports take ages and one customer can slow the system down for everyone else.

02

Without real data separation, big customers won't sign

When a large company asks you for security certifications such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2, you can't tell them their data sits mixed in with everyone else's in the same table. You need real, demonstrable separation.

03

Every update is a gamble

Any database change affects everyone at once. If something goes wrong, all your customers notice. And there's no good time to take the system down: with customers in Europe and the Americas, someone is always working.

04

Onboarding new customers by hand

Activating a new account requires manual processes, configuration and initial data loading. Your sales team takes days to activate a free trial, and you lose deals in the meantime.

Isolation models

Four ways to isolate your customers' data — we choose the one that fits

There's no single right pattern. We weigh cost, operational complexity and compliance requirements to decide the best model for your customer volume and the plans you sell.

One database per customer

Maximum isolation, ideal for enterprise customers. Independent backups, and certification audits (ISO 27001, SOC 2) become easy to pass.

A dedicated space per customer

Each customer has its own area inside the same database. A good balance between operational simplicity and cost control.

Shared database with automatic filters

All customers share the same tables, but each one sees only its own data thanks to built-in access rules. Very efficient when you have a huge number of small customers.

Hybrid by plan

Your Free and Starter customers on a shared database; your Enterprise customers with their own. Lower cost without compromising on what large customers demand.

Architecture

One platform. Data isolated per customer. Shared services.

This is how every user action travels from the browser to the data: the web address (for example, customer1.yourapp.com) identifies which customer it is, a secure digital credential confirms their identity, services scale up automatically when needed, and everything measured is tagged by customer so incidents can be diagnosed precisely.

Customer A

acme.app

Enterprise · Dedicated DB

Customer B

globex.app

Pro · Dedicated schema

Customer C

initech.app

Starter · Shared DB + RLS

Edge / CDN
Cloudflare or CloudFront, routing by subdomain.customer.app
Ingress + Auth
API gateway + JWT token with customer ID and per-customer usage limits
Application services
Designed to add capacity automatically as the number of users grows, without anyone having to step in.
Data store
We use databases with access rules that automatically separate each customer's information, or several independent databases, depending on the level of isolation you need.
Monitoring
Metrics, activity logs and action traces tagged with each customer's label, to pinpoint and fix incidents precisely without affecting anyone else.

Customer lifecycle

From sign-up to using your product in minutes, not days

The complete automated onboarding process when a new customer activates their account — with no manual work from your sales team.

01

Sign-up

The customer signs up, confirms their email and chooses a plan. Their subdomain and unique ID are reserved.

02

Provisioning

The customer's resources are created: their isolated data space, secrets, initial content and default settings.

03

Activation

Guided tour, first admin created, SSO integrations and basic branding. The customer is live and being billed.

04

Operation

Live metrics per customer: usage, revenue, errors, performance. Controlled updates and migrations with feature flags.

Scalability pillars

Four disciplines that keep the platform running when thousands of customers arrive

Technical decisions that prevent painful rewrites later on: auto-scaling, selective sharding, caching and fine-grained observability.

Pillar 01

Auto-scaling

HPA on Kubernetes, on-demand instances and warm pools. The platform responds to real traffic without manual intervention.

Pillar 02

Sharding

Data partitioned by customer or region as volume grows. We isolate the heaviest customers without affecting the rest.

Pillar 03

Caching

Per-customer Redis for sessions and frequent queries. CDN for images and assets. Less load on the database, less waiting for the end user.

Pillar 04

Observability

Metrics, logs and traces tagged by customer ID. Surgical debugging of incidents without losing the big picture.

FAQ

Common questions about multi-tenant SaaS development

How much does it cost to build a multi-tenant SaaS?

The cost depends on the modules, data isolation, onboarding and billing. We define the first version and its roadmap in a proposal with a fixed scope, timeline and price.

What stack do you use for multi-tenancy?

Backend in Node.js, Python or PHP depending on the need; mainly Postgres with row-level security (RLS) for the database; infrastructure on AWS, DigitalOcean or GCP. Kubernetes when real auto-scaling is required.

Can you migrate an existing SaaS to multi-tenant?

Yes. It's a common pattern: you start with one customer and evolve to multi-tenant. We design a phased migration plan with no data loss.

How is usage billed per customer?

We capture usage metrics (users, requests, storage, AI calls) and feed them to Stripe Billing or another billing engine for automatic invoicing.

Is it compatible with ISO 27001 / SOC 2?

Yes. We design with demonstrable data isolation, per-tenant audit logs and encryption at rest and in transit. We support your compliance team through the audit.

Does your SaaS need a multi-tenant architecture?

We assess your current platform and design the roadmap to multi-tenancy — without unnecessary rewrites.
